I absolutely loved Holes. It's sort of an adolescent book, but good nonetheless. Another one of my favorite is the collection of His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass). Also, I have read a series by the name of Percy Jackson and The Olympians and it's about Greek Mythology. I am also reading another series by the name of The Bartimeaus Trilogy and that might be better than all three of those by the time time I'm done according to what I've read so far. It's sort of a four-way split between all of those. I have also read about three of the Artemis Foul series, but until I read them all, I won't be able to say it's one of my favorites. I'm only 16, so what I read may not be your style of reading so whatever suits you best.

_Holes_ would be my favorite young-adult novel.

My favorite hard sci-fi would be _Dragon's Egg_ by Forward and soft would be _Emprise_ by Kube-McDowell. _The Adolescence of P-1_ by Ryan and _Ender's Game_ by Card would be up there.

My favorite novel overall would be _A Clockwork Orange_, though _Jailbird_ by Vonnegut is also up there.

My favorite non-fiction is _Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman_.

Except for _Holes_, I've read each of those books between 3 and 5 times!

Five hitchhikers will never get a ride. Two is the most that can reasonably hope to get a ride.

In non-fiction, I just finished _A Lawyer's Journey_, the biography of the fellow who started the Southern Poverty Law Center, one of my favorite charities.

In fiction, I just finished _Mars Life_, the latest in Ben Bova's series of novels of planetary exploration.

My favorite novel overall would be _A Clockwork Orange_

I read that book in Europe this past summer in two days. Absolutely amazing, though I'd personally call it my second favorite.

My favorite book is 1984 by George Orwell, and my third favorite is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

I used to read Ludlum but after about the 4th or 5th book I could no longer keep the stories straight. They were all too similar.

  3.

I know what you mean. I keep thinking his name is Lumlud

I think that sounds like the start of a halfway decent factoid.

An interesting investigation would be whether it would be quicker for two separate hitch hikers to both get rides or if they were together.

I can tell you use the word 'interesting' loosely.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that's a definition of the word "interesting" that I was not previously familar with.
