Here is something I found quite interesting today:

    Montreal Gazette, 1998

Here's a question for you. Although hypothetical, it could happen. If a firetruck, police car, postal truck and ambulance — all with sirens blaring and lights flashing (except the mail truck, of course) — arrived simultaneously at four corners of an intersection, who would have the right of way?

The Mail Truck is a federal government vehicle, therefore it has the right of way.

Maybe in Montreal. In the US it's the vehicle that has the most guns in it.

    http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/fourway.asp

That popped up on my homepage the other day.

  1.

I would think that it'd be the one turning right.
Unless, of course, they're all turning right...
But why would a mail truck get the right of way? No one is going to die if they get their Penny's catalog thirty seconds late.
    ---
Okay, i've now read the Snopes thing....
In my opinion, it should be the fire truck, then police, then the cop...then, after the hustle-and-bus(t?)le is done, the mail guy can go.
Prolly, if they all happen to be at the same fourway at the same time, they'd be headed to the same place...The fire truck would have to put out the fire so the people don't die; the ambulance has to be there to fix the burnt people after the firefighters have put out the fire enough to make rescue missions; then finally, the cop can sit there and watch for the arsonist who started the whole thing.

So the ambulance just... stays there?

  2.

    oops.
Police and cops are the same thing, huh? I meant the ambulence when I put "police"...

Sorry - that's just an urban legend. We deal in facts here, buddy.

Nobody "has" the right-of-way. More properly, everybody must yield right-of-way. The postal truck must yield right-of-way to any emergency vehicle.
