i just read that 'an average person spends two years of his life in bathroom'
i found it hard to believe. can you please tell me the source of this fact. Also wont it be more credible if you site the source of every fact. I am sorry to say that It all just looks made up when you don't site the source.
But even then, the facts are AWESOME ! :D
waiting for your reply

Not all at the same time, numbnuts. Man, this person's dense. Two years is a long time to stay in one bathroom, regardless of how piney-fresh it may smell. And how would you eat? No one has a fridge in the bathroom. Rec room, ok, but bathroom, gross.
And yes, it wont.

Recent research indicates you are in the minority by having that opinion. The average person is not swayed one way or the other by having the source cited with the fact.
Here are the numbers:
The question was "On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being "least likely" and 5 being "most likely" and 3 being "makes no difference", would you be more or less likely to believe a factoid that has s source cited?"
1 - 7%
2- 12%
3 - 62%
4 - 13%
5 - 5%
DK/NA- 1%
Having said that, the above information is contained in a paper delivered by Stanley D'Ard, PHD, at the 2004 Annual Human Behavioral Sciences Symposium.
I was not at all surprised at the two year average.
2 years=17520 hours.
For argument's sake lets say the average person lives about 75 years.
that would mean the average person spends 17520/75, or about 234 hours per year in the bathroom -- which equates to about 38 minutes per day. While that might sound a little high for, say, a 10-year-old boy, think about a mom of 3 toddlers who has to bathe her 3 kids each day as well as herself and also take care of her other needs. She could easily spend 2 hours in the bathroom per day. Also, I know from experience that some older people have to -- well -- have to spend more time in the bathroom than they did when they were younger. My paternal grandfather, god rest his soul, would sometimes tie up the bathroom for an hour at a time -- a few times a day (And I won't even mention how, even when he was done, it was pretty unusable for quite a while afterwards, if you know what I mean)
So I am wondering if you gave the factoid any thought whatsoever before so cavalierly questioning it?
One other thing -- In at least 13 states, it's a misdemeanor offense to impersonate a member of the press for the purpose of being offensive. Are you really a member of the press? If not, please specify what state you reside in so we can determine whether any laws were broken when you identified this as a press inquiry.
It's very difficult to keep the attention of people when you have to explain in detail how you arrived at each and every calculation. We'd lose the majority of our patrons. Most readers of these factoids just want the info, and then if they have questions, they come here and ask for explanations/calculations as you have done.
Well done, FT.
That was so well written I read almost half of it before I got bored and moved to another thread.
Paul,
Thanks.
I may come back later and read your second sentence.
