    Isn't it?

  1.

Yes, it is. And this just goes to show that Americans know more about geography than most people think.

Of course it's Bismarck, and since you suspected that, consider yourself among the intellectual elite. I suppose that it would have been better worded as "In a recent survey, nearly 60% of American adults believe that the capital of North Dakota is Bismarck, 20% Fargo, 8% Pierre, 6% Sioux Falls, 3% Albany, 2% Sacramento, and 1% Juneau." However, that was much too wordy for the efficient fact-passing style that has evolved on this web site.

Well how about changing the wording to "Only 60 percent of American adults..."? Or how about adding "(which it is)" at the end? As it is right now I think it infers that Bismark is not the capital, and that the 60% are wrong. It should be worded in some way that makes the 60% seem like they are correct in thinking that Bismark is the capital, and that there are 40% of American adults that falsely think otherwise.

Because it takes way too long to get approval from the corporate offices on edits to a published post.

Ah, I see. I guess never mind then.
