Fact checking is just how it sounds. There are 2 ways we come up with our facts. The first, more commonly, is as we are reading or watching something, an interesting statement about something is found, and we then bring it to our fellow fact checkers. All of us work together on making sure the fact is really a fact, and if it meets our rigorous standards, it makes it to the front page. The other way we check facts is through observation when we take fact-finding expeditions around the world (we do this twice a year.)
