I can't find verification anywhere. Could you give me a link?

    Thanks, Jeanne

We actually found this in a government document on their asset protection plan. Most of the United States' banks' paper money is stored in hundred dollar bills, and in large quantities too. This led to fireproofing as a method of ensuring the safety of our much valued cash in the event of large fire.

This was quite a prudent decision on the part of the Department of Treasury, considering that the US Dollar is no longer backed by gold Bullion.

It actually was a security measure added to defy counterfeiters. They are, by the way, re-designing the $100 yet again, in order to deter counterfeiters. The new bills will also be flame resistant.
