I recently saw your Tiddlywinks fact (5/2/07) and realized that I had read that somewhere. When I got to google and searched, I found this page:
http://www.recordholders.org/en/records/tiddlywinks-mile.html
It says that it the the records for fastest tiddlywink mile, but scroll down and near the middle is the record for longest distance. It says that the record is 4.255 km (1395.997375328084 ft) which blows the record you posted (7 feet 1.2 inches) out of the water. What happened here? I thought your fact-checkers would do a little research before posting. Heck, all I did was a google search!
Please explain what a "google search" is.
Posted By: Fact totumPlease explain what a "google search" is.
A "google search" is when you go to the search engine google.com, type something in the given text box, and hit Enter on you keyboard. The Google search engine will then show you a plethora of websites that contain the word, words, phrase, or phrases that you typed into the aforementioned text box.
I was being facetious. (I really wanted to respond, "Please explain what a 'plethora" is)
That web site is not very complete. The internet is a notoriously uneven place for gathering data. People can (and do) post all sorts of stuff willy-nilly without caring about veracity. Indeed, some seem to post misinformation on purpose, if you can believe that!
I had seen the site you cited when I was doing my research. I thought it would be clear that the 'fact' you cited is an endurance-type record that was accomplished by many many 'tiddlings' . The record cited here is for a single 'tiddly'.
(According to the ITWA -- The International Tiddly Wink Association -- a 'tiddly' is defined as the single instance of pressing one wink (the driver wink) against the edge of another wink (the object wink) thus causing the object wink to spring into the air an be propelled forward)
Anyone with some stamina and good knee pads can tiddly a wink for an indefinite distance. Edith, (with whom I spoke and who now lives in Spokane, WA, where she is a retired Master Brewer for a boutique micro brewery and the divorced grandmother of 18) had a talent for long-distance single tiddlying. She said those endurance contests never interested her because she like to stay in one place when on her knees.
By the way, check your math. 4 KM is way more than the number of feet you posted.
From the looks of it, the website you posted is a little shabby. It doesn't take any trouble at all to get a .org nowadays. I reccomend that you stick to firmer sources, such as .gov, .edu, and .info.
Fact Totum - I will have to take you to task. The active verb is to tiddle. We had a version of it in University that involved having a drink when you potted or squopped. That's where the tiddly part came in.
Paul, as we discussed several years ago when we were in NYC together during the FactVerifiers convention, the generally accepted verb form in the US is to tiddly. I understand that most of the rest of the English-speaking world prefers to tiddle, with the notable exceptions of the Bahamas and Guam.
Personally, I've always preferred the form the Canadians use, which is to tiddle. Tiddlying a wink just sounds like an attempt to be pretentious. I am very impressed, though - I've only ever managed to tiddle a wink about 3 feet. My hat's off to Ethel.
Which year was that? The latter part of each conference tends to get a little 'confused' in my memory. I know it wasn't 2003 cus that's when the UFO and area 51'ers tried to dominate the agenda. It was a bit ridiculous because most of them spent their time trying to haul their theories across the yawning chasm between speculative supposition and verifiable fact. You begin to learn that you cannot trust all that is written, even by so-called experts.
It was '04. Remember, at the postprandial brandy-and-cigar event some blowhard from the military's Office of Factual Discovery was trying to convince that guy from the Tahitian Verity Commission that they would be the only ones who would be receiving the terabyte hard drives for the first year they were in production.
Vaguely. I was moving towards the horizontal part of the evening at that stage. The manufacturers were sponsering that part of the conference, and I wanted to show them how much I appreciated their contribution.
It all makes sense to me now. ![]()
However, I inadvernantly changed the km to inches rather than feet.
Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. If a Mars landing venture or a space telescope can have a problem like that then there can be no shame attached.
