Yep! Al Gore presented some good points in the movie, but about half of it was about him instead of global warming, so I thought it was kind of stupid.

I'd go see it just to spend the entire movie mouthing off Al Gore if I didn't know that some fraction of my ticket price would end up in the fucker's pocket.

Wow, just wow. I thought that maybe in the forums of this site, I could find intelligent people, but instead I find a bunch of people who think that the most important scientist of our time is wrong, with no argument as of why. A man that was able to calculate the radiation of black holes on the edge of the universe by using only theoretical math he himself developed. When they sent COBE to space to verify his calculations, his calculations were so identical to his that the differences were negligible. Now he holds Newton's chair at Cambridge. I find it hard to believe that a bunch of people who base your beliefs on what wikipedia articles and what biased bought scientists say (it is now a fact that the government and companies like Exxon paid scientists to disagree with Global Warming:

    http://money.cnn.com/2007/02/02/news/companies/exxon_science/index.htm?cnn=yes)
are arrogant enough to think that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Hawking's are wrong and that they are right. Even after studies like this one:

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/02/02/climate.change.report/index.html
    http://www.yobserver.com/cgi-bin/2007/exec/view.cgi/23/11651

If you want to think that you are smarter than one of the legends in astronomy, then fine, but go ahead and back up your claims with something different than wikipedia articles and google research. Use some data for once. If you people even know what that means.

Also, one of the facts posted on this site:

    • Every gallon of gas burned in a car releases enough carbon dioxide to raise the temperature of the Earth 10^(-32) degrees Fahrenheit.

If you don't like the truth, then start your own site, you can call it gullible disinformation learned by college kids who have too much time with their internet.

I am not denying that Stephen Hawkins is stupid. He's a genius, and everyone knows that. He's so outrageously smart, that he's paralyzed! It's just that his opinions differ from ours. The world is made 2% fact and 98% fudged detail.

If you've learned nothing else about this site in your 6 days here, you should know that there's a wide range of opinions -- even about what is factual. So you're condemnation of the all the posters here as poor scientists is illogical.

Your stridency implies a high degree of proselytizing, which, for a true believer, would be unnecessary -- he would let the facts speak for themselves rather than get worked up into a lather.

Now, to talk about your post specifically, please parse this 'sentence':

A man that was able to calculate the radiation of black holes on the edge of the universe by using only theoretical math he himself developed.

It's, in fact, not a sentence at all, but a long clause. Please recast it in a way that makes sense.

    Here's my favorite part:

When they sent COBE to space to verify his calculations, his calculations were so identical to his that the differences were negligible.

Cool. He calculated what he calculated and his calculations were virtually identical to what he calculated -- so much so that they were pretty much the same.

If you want to think that you are smarter than one of the legends in astronomy, then fine,

Nah -- I'm sure I'm not smarter. But I'm pretty sure I could beat him up.

Also, one of the facts posted on this site:

    • Every gallon of gas burned in a car releases enough carbon dioxide to raise the temperature of the Earth 10^(-32) degrees Fahrenheit.

    And your point is?

Stephen Hawking is definitely an astounding theoretical physicist and has spent years learning, calculating, theorizing and redifining the way we look at the universe.

Now, please explain why I should listen to him on ecology? I mean, last I checked, ecology and theoretical physics are two very different subjects.
