Here's a tricky one, also referenced in theTimesa while back.

What is next in this sequence:
    14, 18, 23, 28, 33...

You are solely responsible for wasting at least 20 mins of my very valuable life - and to no avail so far.

Unlike your 3 light bulb question this one does have a (pretty unfair) twist.

I believe the correct choice of adjectives would be 'extremely unfair.'

I believe the correct choice of adjectives would be 'extremely unfair.'

An adjective modifies a noun. (For instance, unfair)
An adverb modifies an adjective, verb or another adverb. (For instance, extremely)

You're quite lucky, Trance. The last time I forgot to check my 'jects and 'verbs their meter had expired and they'd been towed.

If the answer is "There is no answer" so help me God i will kill you.

Ok, so I used Google, and I believe I have a solution.

To help others along, the kilometre markers for the exits on Highway 401 in Canada are 14, 21, 28, 34, 40, 48....

    You may have it.

Does your solution involve a sequence specific to New York City?

  3.

This thread is about the number 666 and 216.

Actually, Robert Heinlein, in "The Number of the Beast," hypothesizes that the number is 6^6^6 = the number of possible alternative universes there are, when the protagonists are experiencing a "Sliders"-like world hop.

This thread is about the number 666 and 216.

An interpretation that gained currency in the period following the Reformation was that 666 stood for Vicarius Filii Dei, meaning "Vicar of the Son of God," one of the Latin titles for the Pope of Rome and in fact V F D is inscribed upon the Papal Party Hat (What's it called? A phallugellum or some such?)

    Why does V F D = 666?

Some numerical values bull based on the number value if the letter was a roman numeral

    V -- 5
    I -- 1
    C -- 100
    A -- 0
    R -- 0
    I -- 1
    U -- 5 (there is no "U" but a "V" in Roman)
    S -- 0

    F -- 0
    I -- 1
    L -- 50
    I -- 1
    I -- 1

    D -- 500
    E -- 0
    I -- 1

totals 666. What's amusing is this...
'Vicarious Filii Dei' adds up to 666 not only in Roman numerals (Latin), but also in Greek & Hebrew. These 3 languages are mentioned together in John 19:20 at the crucifixion:
"This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin."

So a universal Christian Church of any sort is the true Beast that Jesus and his Hippy Disciples warned us of!! OMFG!

Yes, long hair, no bathing, wore sandals, talked about peace love and harmony, finding brotherhood... It's very likely they used herbs, plants and prolonged periods of various forms of meditation to achieve "enlightenment"...
    Hippies.

Edit - Oh. Yeah, so what? They liked the bread and fishes.

  6.

And they now like dough and are fishy.

Yeah the Mother Teresa notes are phenomenal.

She says she "did not feel the presence of god either in her heart or in the eucharist" for 48 years.

So wait, you mean people can be good without being Godly? And also - doesn't that make her one hell of a liar? And, we all know lies make baby Jesus cry.

No, dummy; the VFD on the Papal Party Hat is merely an indication that he's part of the Vatican Volunteer Fire Department, as are all persons who reside in that country.

    Vicarius Filii Dei my ass.
