"The South East Asian island of Muwiana is the only known civilization to have domesticated fish. "

I'm suspicious of this one, given that there are no hits for Muwiana in any of the major search engines. If there is no island of Muwiana, then the "factoid" is actually a "fictoid".

Having said that, I really do enjoy gullible.info. A good way to recognize that I'm hooked on the site is that I'll refresh my Google home page a couple of times just to see the next random gullible.info factoid pop up.

Thanks guys! (but fess up on this one...)

When you searched on the engines, did you use the South East Asian domain versions?

Muwiana is what the natives call the island. It's so small that is doesn't apear on most maps and is compleatly cut off from the outside world. It is part of a larger, more well known chain of islands known as the Moluccas. The only people welcome too the island are natives, relatives of the natives (2nd family and above), and those that have large sums of money.

There's also no electricity on the island, so the internet isn't much of a priority.

It's been left relativly untouched because the only natural resources on the island are trees.

I spent some time there while researching "lost" cultures. The Muwianas are a charming people, however, as D League said, very insular. It was a good two months before I was accepted enough for the villagers to even acknowledge my presence among them, as I am neither a native nor a relative thereof. Despite the lack of luxuries and the primitive (to Western eyes) living conditions, I greatly enjoyed the eight months that I was able to devote to my study of their culture. Besides the domesticated fish, which many of the village children keep as pets and train to do tricks, the Muwianas are known in sociological circles for their political system. The village headman is chosen by a democratic vote of all villagers who are old enough to speak, but is chosen for life, so cannot be impeached if he does not perform.

Athene, how did you communicate? They speak a dialect of Aramaic.

In the beginning, there were a lot of attempts at establishing some sort of sign language, however, as I spent more time listening, I was able to start picking up words. It helped that I had studied a limited amount of Aramaic previously - kind of like knowing Spanish can help you pick up some Italian words and phrases.

From fish to Jesus it all comes together...

  6.

Perhaps I could bring this thread back on topic?

Inspired by the efforts of the Muwianas I myself have tried to teach fish yo do some things to make life a little more convenient for myself. Its kind of an independent experiement, Im tryinf to get them to warn me when they see someone coming to the door. They could splash and get my attention, I can't afford a security system. So far I have had minimal progress.
