I recently came across this fact,

"All US Army field manuals are written at a fourth grade level."

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

    it makes sense.. lol..

it reminds me of something i've heard.. those can't do.. teach.. those who can't teach.. teach pe..

i know it has nothing to do with the army.. but it was the first thing to come to my mind

When I was taking elementary education classes, a good friend used to tell me "Teachers - the more you educate them the dumber they get." Funny, he's now a teacher, while I'm working elsewhere now...

IMHO, any time someone tells you their IQ, you should completely discount it. I've had probably 100 people tell me their IQ in my adult years, and NOT ONE of them was less than 130. I don't think that the company I keep is THAT elite...

lol.. i go to a grammar school so most of the people have iqs of around 130, not many with anything less than 120, although most of the really dumb kids don't ever say their iq.. i wonder why.. lol..

I think it's smart to not say your IQ. Like not saying Voldemort.

an IQ is a measure of how fast your brain can proccess information, and come up with an appropriate result. They do not measure intelligence, it was thought that Einstein's IQ was considerably low for his ability, but because he took his time to think, he came up with magnificant theories and equations.

In my opinion, intelligence can't be comparatively measured. Minds are like snowflakes.

Wow. Look how off-topic we got by me asking one little question!

I believe that the IQ test measures your intelligence to a certain extent, but I don't think we can really measure it exactly, as Trance said.

I just joined the National Guard, I am prior NAVY so I had to go to "WTC" or Warrior Transition Course, they told us that ALL (enlisted) US ARMY manuals were written at a 7th grade level and all Officer manuals were written at a 9th grade level.

I’m not sure what scares me more… that the military thinks it has a bunch of morons or that the education system in the US is that bad.

Actually, after some researching, the manuals are written at this level because it is incovenient to be reading an incredibly complex manual while under fire. I'm sure it's for the occasional moron too.

I found it incredibly disconcerting to see my buddy reading "Curious George" in the foxhole back in 'Nam.
