I must ask the experts of gullible.info:

I have heard that with lie detectors (maybe it was life in general), if you believe something is true, then it is; no matter if it is false. For my upcoming test, I was hoping I could get some advice on how to "beat the man". Can someone let me in on a strategy for passing my polygraph?

Polygraph machines are incorrectly called "lie detectors." They do no such thing. They detect the body's responses in a variety of measures. People then interpret the responses and announce that a person is lying (or not) based on the results. But that's not always so. For instance, if you are very sensitive to anything about sex, like a 13-year-old boy might be, then somebody asking said boy "Did you have sex with Jennie?" would elicit the same response due to his heightened focus on sex as the boy stating aloud "I did not have sex with Jennie" out of the blue. In other words, any response by him would be seen by the polygraph as a lie, as would any statement he made whether or not in response to a question.

So, basically, if you know that the whole thing is a sham, and particularly if you take some sort of mild relaxant, you should be able to retain a neutral demeanor throughout, and nothing would show up as a lie.

think about things that makes your pulse race on the control questions (the questions they know the answer to, but ask to see how your body behaves when it tells the truth).

If your in enough trouble to be having a poly test, maybe you should step back and take a look at what your trying to lie about. Maybe you should take this chance to fess up and do the right thing instead. Only cowards lie.

Wasn't World War Two started by lies though? Something about Hitler's secret army? History is one of my worst subjects so that's probably false, but I could guess lying had something to do with the reasons for the start of the war.

theres no such thing as a lie detector.

a polygraph test detects changes in biological levels within a person that suggest when a person is nervous.

In theory most people are nervous when they lie, but they can also be nervous when they don't lie.

the way to beat a polygraph is just to be nervous for every question.

there were a lot of reasons for WWII but appeasement was one of them, although it was also because of germany's government trying to screw each over other and thinking they could control hitler, germany's alliance with russian, also because of the treaty of versailles, but the actual reason for the war to begin was that germany tried to take over the polish corridor and it was their last warning from france and britain so they declared war (although this did not change the polish corridor from being taken over and would never even come close to helping them to stop the area from being taken over)

I was watching a show about polygraph detectors and more often then not these days, they are not as commonly used. Most lawyers and judges do not trust the results. This view is shared by many of the people administer the test. They know it's not incredibly accurate, however with a well trained and experienced administer, they can determine how accurate the tests are. As well, it's commonly used as a starting point.

    http://www.wikihow.com/Cheat-a-Polygraph-Test-%28Lie-Detector%29

    Great website, check it out.

  1.

WARNING: This is for educational purposes only. You shouldn't try to cheat a lie detector test!

Lie detector tests are based completely on the way electricity interacts with your skin, which changes with your stress level. Anything you can to skew either the interaction itself or the reaction to the stress will consequently skew the results of the polygraph.

I had some friends a while ago who knew about these kinds of things (I can't go into how they knew; I never wanted to ask) and they gave me a full run down on how to beat the machines. The easiest way they recommended was to drink two cups of pure lemon juice two hours before the test. Lemon juice is a strong but harmless acid that will be excreted in small amounts in your sweat. It has the effect of acting like a conductive coating to your skin. The electricity they try to test you with is conducted by the acid, not your skin. This means that no matter how you react, the machine will read you cool as a cucumber. They gave me a demo, and let me try it out myself. Even when I thought I was doing horribly, it didn't register a single lie. Good luck!

Great info legatissimo, however, watch out for the real pros as they are able to pick up subtle oddities that the lemon juice leaves on the test. Most are virtually unnoticeable except to a trained experienced eye. However, very few experts exist that are able to detect such discrepancies as that you are guaranteed not detecting a single lie.

Back to the topic at hand ...

Legat is right, lemon juice does cause lie detectors to prevaricate their results, but I would be fearful that most persons trained to read polygraph output have a sense of smell, and know when someone has just consumed 2 cups of lemon juice. My cousin knows this from first hand experience, putting me two degrees from polygraph experience. He said before he went in for his test that he chewed a couple handfuls of fresh mint (stems and all), told the polygraph operator that he'd been drinking mojitos all afternoon, and slurred his speech so that his story was believable. He was then escorted out of the examination room, and immediately arrested, as he was 19 at the time, but I digress. Hopefully you're of legal age and can give this a try, Emu!

  3.

If you don't have fresh mint pop a couple breath mints. It'll cover the lemon juice up. Just don't burp, or the jig'll be up.

Well, I am typing this one from the pen. I took Trance's advice and decided the best thing to do would be to not lie; I cannot say that I am 100% satisfied with the results. I do have one hour of library time per day in which I am allowed to access the internet. I also have one hour per day for exercise, and three hours are spent eating. One hour is spent showering. Eight hours are devoted to sleep, and the rest of the time I am awake in my cell; mostly reading. I am doing 5-10, hope to be out in five years on good behavior. Thanks to all of those who voiced their opinions and tips.
