This is not a dirty post! I was reading a book on octupi, and I found this really interesting fact! An octopus' testicals are actually located in it's head! The book is definitely a reliable source. Can someone explain how I can submit this fact to Gullible Info?

Isn't most of an octopus its head? And I'm fairly sure that its mouth is located at the intersection of all of its legs. Anyway, this is fairly common amongst primitive sea creatures and politicians. They have their genitals located there because their mouth and brain are actually at the leg intersection.

And how reliable is your source? Is there a title to this book? I ask this not because I believe you are untrustworthy, but because there are people out there that will make up these "facts." I have met dozens of people like this, and they all think it is fun to cause confusion just because their audience will believe any garbage that is fed to them. That is why all of us here at Gullible.info are dedicated to giving you and everyone else the most accurate information as possible. Not just anyone can submit a fact and expect it to be posted. It takes time and research to verify a fact. We will review your fact and, if it meets our strict standards, we may just post it.

The book is called "Octupi: A Study". I've become increasingly interested in oceanography and marine biology, and so I've been reading a lot of books on sea creatures.

If I'm not mistaken, 90% of all non-vertibrates (that reproduce sexually) have genitalia in what we would consider their heads.

The "head" is actually different from the main body (the area right above the tentacles), but you can't tell with it's skin covering everything. Its testes are located right behing it's eyes. Most of the octupus is located in the "body", but the body is so close to the head that many people just assume it has only a head and tentacles. The same is true for squids and other members of the cephalopoda family. :zoid:

speaking of which, the most amazing animal I've ever seen belongs in this group. I saw it on a BBC documentary not long ago, the 'dracula toothus', or something like that... incredible creature. I tried to find a link for you, but no such luck. I'll describe it though; it is blood red, and all of its tentacles are webbed together like a giant cape. when you scare it, its eyes and the tip of each tentacle glows an erie blue, and it spreads its cape wide to confuse the attacker. really cool animal. lives very deep in the ocean too.

haha, damn you i just found it!

"In a threat response called "pumpkin" or "pineapple posture", the Vampire Squid inverts its caped arms back over the body, presenting an ostensibly larger form covered in fearsome-looking though harmless spines (called cirri). The underside of the cape is heavily pigmented, masking most of the body's photophores. The glowing arm tips are clustered together far above the animal's head, diverting attack away from critical areas. If a predator were to bite off an arm tip, the Vampire Squid can regenerate it."
