WELCOME BACK CODY! I missed you man.
We were just discussing at work a church that threw out a long-term member because he was gay. This happened just after his mother passed away, making him the only remaining member of his family.

A. All the spam I post (Most of it accidental) is from my own mind.
B. I would never negotiate with someone who's name is estebanissexy.
Ok, so its been a while since I posted. I actually took a course on this in college. I cant remember sources off-hand, but here goes...
1. The Old Testament was first recorded in Greek, due to the fact that the Pharisees and majority of Rabbis had the entire Torah memorized. Therefore the only written versions necessary were for non-jews.
2. The New Testament was written in latin, since it was the prevalent language of the day.
3. There WERE many books that were rejected from the initial compilation of the Bible, in fact revelations almost was excluded. There were many reasons for the rejection of these books, but the most prevalent reason was that they were written too long after the death of Christ to have been first, second, or even third hand accounts. Also, many of them disagreed with those books known to have come from first or second hand witnesses, i.e. the Gospels
4. It is true that many Christians use their faith as a point for hatred and bigotry, but to truly follow Christ is to ignore the differences in others (lepers and tax collectors even).
5. The Bible was compiled from a list of books by one man, but the books on that list were chosen by a group of Bishops (Council of Nicea anyone? From which comes the Nicene Creed). It was not one man, it was the leaders of hundreds of churches that chose the Bible based upon the general knowledge of the body of Christs church, the people. (No relation to the Australian town).
Any other questions?
Christchurch is in New Zealand, not Australia.
Oh, and welcome back, shades.

Yes, it was formally compiled at Nicea, but the old testament was first put together at Trent, and then the Apocryphal books were added at Jamnia.
Touche, yet much of the debate rages on about the New Testament, not the old testament books. The Old Testament was relatively set even before the birth of Christ.
And thanks Udoboy, I wasnt sure if it was New Zealand or Australia.
Who knew you could talk about the Bible (it is a religious thread but it's mainly Christianity)?

Contrary to popular belief, it seldom is.
What are people's views on religious symbols displayed in public/ government places?
It's perfectly okay, as long as their religion is not impeached unto me or anyone else (except people already in it).
Posted By: D LeagueWhat are people's views on religious symbols displayed in public/ government places?
If you want churchin', go to church.
Any other questions?
I'm for keeping them. Personally, when I see a religious symbol, even if it's not a symbol of my religion, it reminds me to keep things in perspective. Realize that all the little things stressing me out aren't so important.
Good question, D League! ![]()
i think symbols should be allowed to be shown, but for all religions not just some
Posted By: D LeagueWhat are people's views on religious symbols displayed in public/ government places?
i think they should be taken out of government areas but displayed publicly is acceptable, assuming they don't pose any form of danger.
What do you mean "don't pose any form of danger"? You mean I can't put up a metal Buddha in the middle of a children's playground because one of the little tykes might bump their head on my diety?
The danger wouldn't be physical. The small children could inadverdantly learn part of a culture unwanted by parents.
Yes, God forbid Christian children learn to love their neighbor as themselves.
Exactly.
