One of the "facts" recently said: The most snow to ever fall in a 24 hour period was recorded on Mount Whitney in 1987. Nearly 18 feet of snow fell on the mountain.
I was unable to find anything about that on the internet. I was able to find a reliable source that says:
The North American record is held by Silver Lake, Colorado, which received 76 inches (6.3 feet) in 24 hours on April 14-15, 1921.
Reference: Randall S. Osterhuber, Climatic Summary of Donner Summit, California, Central Sierra Snow Laboratory, October 1993

Since the "fact" says the record is nearly 3 times the record I found, it seems very unrealistic. Does anyone have a reference for the Mt Whitney stat?
I just looked up micmacmedia, and the author is a bit skewed toward his region of the USA, North Cali and Nevada. While that's beautiful country, I wouldn't take his word alone on facts like this. I remember hearing about the Mt. Whitney blizzard as a teenager. While not the devastation of Mt. St. Helens, it was newsworthy.
I think the author of that site is referencing the most snowfall in a populated area. In which case the Silver Lake fact is true. However, the most recorded snowfall was on the west face of Mount Whitney March 18th 1987.
