I want to try having a month with some theme days. Something like "Typophile Tuesdays" and it's all little tidbits or one or two tidbits about typography. While "Typophile Tuesdays" was my original idea, I understand that it probably doesn't have a huge amount of appeal in the general populous, and it'll probably be pretty difficult to come up with a bunch of facts about typography. So I'm opening the floor for suggestions. Two guidelines:
1. Should be an alliteration, or have a cute name
2. Should be a broad enough subject to have lots of facts, without getting repetitive
The winner gets a very special prize: the satisfaction of a job well done.
How about "Phobic Fridays" where all of the facts would be about bizarre phobias. Maybe it could be for October, since there's a Friday the 13th in that month - even better.
Wired Wednesdays: All bout electronics.
Thoughtful Thursdays - facts about the great thinkers/philosophers like Plato, Socrates, Descartes, etc...
Meteorological Mondays - everything you ever wanted to know about weather phenomena.
By the way, Legatissimo, it is possible to create skins for this forum? I'm not sure how it works for this forum, but maybe we should have some skin designing contests?
Hey now. I made this skin.
Sorry. I mean, if the forum software was called Vanilla and so was the skin, I though it'd be a default. Anyways, in retrospect, I guess it was a bad idea. We'd get so few participants.
How about Fact Filled Fridays, when we discuss REAL facts?
It rubs the lotion on its skin. It rubs the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again!
How about Photoshop Phridays? I bet no one's thought of that!
We could do 'Toon Tuesdays. All about cartoons & comics.

Are any of you folks goons, too?
Meteorogical Sundays (get it? haha? no...)
Watery Wednesdays (not very broad?)
World War Wednesdays
...you could just have a once-a-month occasion where you pick a random week to rotate around a central theme. You could even think of a word to go with each day of the week that also correlates with the theme... Just a thought.
I was thinking... "Sexual Sundays...." where we post a bunch of wierd sex facts on sunday, and we put a little image like this:
Scatalogical Saturdays
Just like guys - always thinking below the waist... :)
Just like women...
I know - we're always picking on you guys...
Must come by instinct.

Fixed.
Now now now.. not ever thread needs to be a flirt-fest.

Sheesh!! Next thing you know we're going to have a curfew!
Whenever there's a parade that needs rain, I will be there. That is my promise to each and every one of you.
Well, now we know legatissimo means "most annoying mosquito" in Italian.

Hey - wait a minute. Did you ever meet Douglas Adams? I think he based a character in "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" on you...
isn't that from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy?
I shudder to think what kind of response this will get, but I must confess... I've never read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
MrFingers, yes, it is part of the 5-book "Hitchhiker's" trilogy. In my opinion, it was rather weak, but it's still Douglas Adams, which still makes it good. I just prefer the others.
Legatissimo, your mission is to run, not walk, to the nearest Barnes & Noble, Borders, local bookstore, or library and procure at least the first book, which, coincidentally enough, is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I think you'll like it.
If you are too lazy to read, the film is quite good as well... but of course the books are always better.
Phew! Moving my eyes in short horizontal lines is a lot of work. It's much easier if I can just keep them fixed on a big screen in front of me.
I enjoyed the film, but it was just missing that indefinable Douglas Adams quality in the dialogue. There were some places where you could tell that he clearly had input into the screenplay before he died, but the rest of it kind of fell a little flat to me. Was it just me, or did it seem like they left some of the best dialogue in the book out of the movie?
I thought the film was flat. I've never read the book(s), either.
But I have read all of The Three Musketeers quintet. [well, if you split Le Vicomte de Bragelonne into three parts...]
You need to read the books. You're further along on the classics than I am, though - I haven't read any of the Three Musketeers. Sad, but true. I started Les Miserables several years ago and made it about 3/4 of the way through before getting bogged down in all the political backstory and giving it up as a bad job. Besides, I couldn't read it without the corresponding song from the musical going through my head.
I read the entire Old Testament. Nothing phases me.
Yeah, I've done that, too, but for some reason I just couldn't force my way through Les Mis.
I'm stuck on 100 Years of Solitude at the moment. But I'm not trying too hard, maybe I'll read some more of it tonight.

I don't believe you. Who begat Ezekiah who begat Zacharias who begat Hezopharias?
I didn't say I'd read it recently (it's been at least 5 or 6 years), and unless they have an eidetic memory or they're a religious scholar, I doubt many people are going to remember the "begats". Give me a minute and I can probably find it, though...

lol well, it's more about the time it takes isn't it ;)

It seems to me like the correct word is fazes, although it does seems a bit phishy...
You know, I typed in fazes, and then decided to change it because I hadn't seen it in so long.
Did the Starship Enterprise have fazers and foton torpedoes? I think not...
lol
