I don't see how he could have flunked physics since physics classes weren't invented yet. According to Wikipedia, the first college physics class was at the University of Chicago in 1923, well after Einstein had already made his mark. And the first high school physics class was in 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona.

I think that he did flunk his university course and it was in Physics, though that last part is possibly untrue. I know that he after that began working in the patent office.

It was math he flunked, and he flunked because he could prove the teacher wrong.

This link has information contrary to the original post.

Everything2 states: "When his family moved to Italy in 1894, Albert stayed behind to finish high school, but he was dismissed after a doctor said he was going to have a nervous breakdown. He took the entrance exam for Swiss Polytechnic in Zurich, in an attempt to skip high school completely, and although he scored high in math, he still flunked. He finished high school in Aarau, Switzerland, and enrolled in Swiss Polytechnic, where he met with his future wife, Mileva Maric (the only woman in his class), and graduated with a less-than-outstanding record."

Which seems to indicate that he failed an equivalent of the GED, but not a specific course.

I heard this in a discovery channle podcast, he flunked physics, because his teacher didn't like him, and if he didn't think about sience after school, he probably would just be an other average joe.

Of course, you never amount to anything unless you have passion and enthusiasm.

I believed it to be a very well known fact that Albert Einstien was in fact very good at physics. Although I could be mistaken.
