My Gullible IGoogle gadget just told me that Zhuan Zhu died in 1643.
Zhuan Zhu was actually an assassin in the 4th century (500's) BC.
He famously killed King Liao of Wu, for which he in return was killed, in 515 BC.
Where exactly do you find this ridiculously innacurate info?
For those who fail at internet sarcasm: the above line falls under that category.
Yes, the most famous one of legend one died in the 4th century. However, the name "Zhuan Zhu" was used many times by assassins as "working names" and honorifics over the years. The most deadly of these "Zhuan Zhu" assassins was clearly the one in the 17th century, and that one's deeds are fairly well documented (unlike the one in the 4th century) -- clearly NOT the stuff of legend, but of fact.
I also just looked up information in the Chinese census web sites (they're oddly open about some information, but other information is totally unavailable, which often frustrates our research when dealing with Chinese topics), and found that there are approximately 65,300 "Zhuan Zhu"s alive today. They don't allow access to occupation data without approved research bona fides (which I do not have in this case), but I suspect a minority of them are assassins, and that even those that are wouldn't list it as their occupation with the government. So, I think you can rest easy.
OMG. I never even saw the whole Zhuan Zhu factoid. I know a Zhuan Zhu here in the USA. I wonder if he's secretly an assassin.
No no no. He has secretly BEEN assassinated.
Alrighty, it's all good.
Darn Wikipedia.
You should know better than to trust something just because it was written on the internet...even if it seems to be such a reputable website =).
